OK, I admit it. There are some bootleg DVDs available around here—they are sold in the local shops on base. But, I have to say, the major studios (heck, even the minorest of studios) have absolutely nothing to worry about in terms of lost ticket or DVD sales or even lost rental sales. The truth is these things universally suck! It is impressive how efficient this bootleg enterprise is: War of the Worlds was available here within a week of being released in the states. But, and this is a perfect example of what I mean, the DVD was completely unwatchable—the soundtrack was 30 seconds behind the video. It is eerie to watch a baseball sail through a window in complete silence, next thing you know Tom Cruise is laying in bed and there is tremendous breaking glass sound.
Tom Cruise in bed with breaking glass—it isn’t an image you want floating around in your brain—trust me…
